Jarvis R. Givens, PhD is a Professor of African & African American Studies and Education at Harvard University, where he is the co-founding faculty director of the Black Teacher Archive. Professor Givens is the author of four books, including: I'll Make Me A World: The 100-Year Journey of Black History Month, American Grammar: Race, Education, and the Building of a Nation, School Clothes: A Collective Memoir of Black Student Witness, and Fugitive Pedagogy: Carter G. Woodson and the Art of Black Teaching. His work has also been published in various outlets, such as The Atlantic, The Journal of African American History, Harvard Educational Review, and LA Review of Books. Givens is originally from Compton, California, and currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts.
