Steve Vogel is the author of A Task Force Called Faith: The Untold Story of the U.S. Army Soldiers Who Fought for Survival at Chosin Reservoir – And Honor Back Home, published in November 2025. Vogel is a veteran journalist who reported for The Washington Post for more than two decades, writing extensively about military affairs, overseas conflicts and the treatment of veterans from the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. His reporting about the war in Afghanistan was part of a package of Washington Post stories selected as a finalist for the 2002 Pulitzer Prize. Vogel covered the September 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon, and the building’s subsequent reconstruction. He also covered the war in Iraq and the first Gulf War, as well as U.S. military operations in Rwanda, Somalia, and the Balkans. Vogel reported from Cold War Germany and covered the fall of the Berlin Wall. A graduate of the College of William and Mary, he received a master’s degree in international public policy from Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies. His previous books include Betrayal in Berlin: The True Story of the Cold War’s Most Audacious Espionage Operation; Through The Perilous Fight: Six Weeks that Saved the Nation; and The Pentagon: A History.
