Kevin M. White is Professor of the Practice in Management and Organization at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and Vice President & Director of Athletics Emeritus at Duke. One of the most respected leaders in collegiate athletics, he spent nearly four decades as an athletics director at Duke, Notre Dame, Arizona State, Tulane, Maine, and Loras College, guiding programs to a combined fourteen national championships.
At Duke, White oversaw 27 varsity sports and more than 700 student-athletes, leading the Blue Devils to eight NCAA titles, 30 ACC championships, and consistent top-25 finishes in the Learfield Directors’ Cup. He also advanced major initiatives in fundraising, facilities, student-athlete success, diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.
Nationally, White has shaped the landscape of college sports through leadership roles on numerous NCAA committees, chairing the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee, and guiding the ACC Television Committee during the launch of the ACC Network. He currently serves on the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee Board of Directors and chairs its Collegiate Advisory Council.
His memoir, The Good Sport: Reflections on a Full Life in College Sports, was published in 2024.
Widely honored for his impact, White has received many of the field’s top awards, including the Under Armour AD of the Year Award, the John L. Toner Award, and induction into the NACDA Hall of Fame. He holds a Ph.D. in Education from Southern Illinois University and has taught graduate courses since 1982. He and his wife, Jane, have five children and sixteen grandchildren.
